Hi guys! New to the forum. Great site! New to Xj's also, just bought one off a friend that I am in the process of hardtailing. (will get some pics up on a new thread soon).

Does anyone know if the top ends happen to be the same from the 550 to the 650. They look about identical. This bike runs fine but I am still curious, it would be cool to gets some more zing if it was just a matter of parts swapping.

    Thanks

    Nope.

The 600 head, cylinders, etc (well, ok SOME 600s) will swap.

XJ600,FJ600 and YX600 will swap over up till around 91-92, I haven't looked at the later Seca2 stuff with the inclined barrels but I suspect it may as well

If you just swap the barrels and pistons or overbore the 550 barrel with stock 58.5 mm 600 pistons it will take it from 528cc to 557cc if you can find some 1mm oversize 600 pistons (59.5mm) it will take it to 576cc

A better bet would be to find a complete 600 motor and bolt it in
