XJ 650 CARBS AND INTAKE BOOTS.

    K GUYS, I HAVE JUST ABOUT GIVEN UP ON SEARCHING, I FIGURED I WOULD GIVE YOU GUY'S A TRY. I HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE FORUM FOR A FEW YEARS. HERE IS MY STORY, I AM 42 YEARS OLD AND I BOUGHT MY 1981 XJ 650 MAXIM WHEN I WAS 14. I STILL HAVE HER. AND I WANT TO GET HER BACK ON THE ROAD. SHE IS STILL MINT WITH 1300 ORIGINAL MILE BUT TIME AND NEGLECT HAS DESTROYED MY INTAKE BOOTS AND I BROKE A CARB ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL REBUILD KITS. I CANNOT FIND ANY USED BOOTS OR CARBS ANYWHERE. I NEED HELP. I DON'T WANT TO LET HER GO TO THE SCRAP BUT IF I CAN'T RIDE IT MY WIFE WILL MAKE ME GET RID OF HER. SO PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT. THANKS

    I had a similar situation regarding the mounting boots, in the end I just sucked it up and bought new ones for about $50 a piece. I had to do the same with my old Kawasaki, so it just seemed to make sense just to swallow the cost and be sure of good boots. As for the carbs, there's tons of help and tips here on cleaning the ones you have. So try that first.

    I WOULD LOVE TO JUST CLEAN THE CARBS. BUT WHEN I SAY BROKE, MEANS I "BROKE" THE CARB.

    I have complete set of carbs for a 1981 XJ 650 Maxim.
    They are still mounted on a my parts bike. I can take them off and send pictures if your interested. I have the boots too, but I am sure they have some external cracking, but I don't think they are cracked all they way.
    I also have some individual carb bodies if you just broke one

    Listen---- people have already offered replacement carbs/body. You can continue to ask, talk about broken posts,etc/ ask how to repair them (which is possible to do with fancy machining and dovetailing, etc....),blah blah blah...... OR just get the replacement body, take the rack apart, put all new seals in whil you're at it, clean it all, shim, sync, and go ride it.
