It can be done. Lots have people have done it. It makes more hassle than its worth.

The bike is made to run with the restriction on air flow that the stock air box gives. Pod filters allow more airflow, which means that the delicate balance required for the carbs to work properly is lost.

I have not tried it myself, but from reading the vast number of posts on here from people who have there are a few conclusions that seem to be apparent:

    1) Your going to need to rejet the carbs - which can be a complete trial and error job.

    2) Even if you manage to get the bike rejetted properly, you will not get any better performance than the stock setup.

    3) If you get any performance gain in the bottom end, you'll lose in the top or middle for example. Basically any marginal performance gain will result in a loss somewhere else in the powerband.

So basically the way I see it is your gaining a purely cosmetic modification that will almost certainly adversely affect your bikes performance. The decision is is that worth it to you?

Do a search of "Pod Filters" and you'll lots of posts that will give you alot of detail on all the work involved and the help you need if you do decide to change them over.

I simply changed my air filter to a k&n figuring I could get more air flow and more power. boy was I wrong. I could not get the bike to go over 5000 rpm with it in. Had to go back to the regular air filter just to get my top end back.
