I have an 85 MaximX 700 and noticed that the tach wasn't working while riding. Forgot to look into it, but the next time I rode, the neutral light quit working. Shortly after that I realized that my turn signals weren't working. The lights are on, but when I press the signal button nothing happens. Master fuze is good, all fuzes in the instrument panel are good. I can't find any other fuzes (even with maintenance manual), but it seems like it should be a big fuze. Ideas? I have a parts bike to try parts from.

Is your fuse block original? I don't have a wiring diagram for an xj700 . If you have one trace wires from fuse block out . I believe they still used a fuse in headlight bucket and there is a diode block also . ( there is in my 82 xj750 seca) you should use a volt meter and check for voltage at the fuses. I' m sure you might have checked this only trying to help.

The Maxim-X uses ATC fuses, so fusebox failure is unlikely. Checking for voltage at each circuit is the way to go though.

Anything with a switch in the circuit should have the switch contacts deoxidized to make sure the current can flow.

Thanks for the help. I found another post that had the exact same issue and it was a 15A fuze in the instrument panel. Re-checked mine and sure enough, missed one that was blown. But now the problem is that after I replaced it and rode 1/2 mile, it burned through the new one. Came back and replaced it while the bike was still hot and it blew that one instantly as soon as I turned on the key. The neutral light flashed on then off to the sound of the fuze popping. Any ideas where to start looking for this issue?

Follow the wires. One is probably pinched, or rubbed through the insulation causing a short.

^^+1 agree with k moe you have wire picking up a ground some where in your harness.

I tracked it down to my left side horn. I've checked the wires very carefully around the horn and to the switch. Right now I have just remove the wires from that side horn. The right side horn still works everything else is fine. If I put those wires in to the left side horn and turn on the bike it will instantly blow the 15 amp fuse. The next thing I will probably try is switching the wires from the right horn to the left horn to see if that causes an instant blowout. In which case I guess it would mean there's some problem with the horn itself that's causing a ground or maybe it's locked in the on position mechanically.
