Anyone know the approximate weight limit for a 1985-86 XJ 700 Maxim. Would like to do some touring and want to know how much kit I can bring along w/ out totally ruining the handling of the bike.

I couldn't find an actual maximum weight limit of the bike, but the tire pressure section of a service manual lists 542 lbs as the upper limit. This is the total load of rider, passenger, cargo, and accessories.

Is that per tire or is it the max?

For example, my rear tire (130/90-16 67 H) has a load limit of 677 lbs.

The front (100/90-19 44 H) has a load limit of 353 pounds. Which is less than the weight of the bike!!)

If you add those, it cones to 1020 pounds.

If it is only the rear tire, then, my tire can only handle the bike plus 200 pounds. And, that ain't good as I weigh more than that.

    Thanks for any help.
