I recently traded my XV1100 Virago and got an XJ1100 Maxim. The clutch slips on the 1100 under a higher load due to a previous engine flush with gear oil (with friction modifiers in it).

Do I have a chance of restoring the clutch grippiness by disassembling and cleaning the clutch with motorcycle oil, or am I better off just replacing the clutch?

You're going to want to replace the friction plates anyway if original.
