hey all, that time of year again.. does anyone know what the compression should be on a xj1100? my bike sat all winter on it's side stand, last week i pulled the plugs and did a compression check, here are my readings.
1- 240, 2 230 , 3- 180 , and 4 is 170, i suspect that 1 and 2 are higher because the bike sat leand on the stand for so long, but my questuion is what should they be?, whats acceptable?

Are you testing dry, with the throttle wide open & the air filter out?
You could also try with a different tester.

ok, so having the 249 psi on 1 and 2 i suspect it is because the bike was on the side stand and maybe some oil got into the cyls, in any case, i am thinking that valves and rings are ok , unless the ratios stay that way in which case the cyls would be out of balance am i correct there?

    OK,
You need to run the engine for 20 minutes, then do the test.
You could test the gauge against a good engine, just to check the gauge.
You might have unknown amounts of oil in there that will increase your readings.
Gasoline can leak by both the petcock, and the floats, throwing these readings off. Check your oil level. Something's up.
