I've been searching for quite a while now and came up with a few questions that i have not found answers for yet so hopefully i will find some. Thanks for the help guys!

I have 2 82 xj550 maxims both have good motors around 15kmiles working on chopping one and restoring the other. So far so good when i get enough cash to buy parts. But the carbs have been giving me troubles. I have 2 sets of carbs one from each bike bought a rebuild kit went through and put both sets together because there were problens with some of the bowls and some of the diaphrams were bad. But i have 1 set of working carbs! buti have 2 bikes that need carbs :(

I've been searching for parts which are pretty spendy. so i've been looking for alternatives.
Fz600 Fj600 and Radian 600 carbs are a little more reasnable and should work from what i've read but ive been searching for what years i can use and stumbled into new Fz6's like 00's models are those the same as Fz 600's?

It looks like Fz 600's and Fz6's are pretty interchangable so they should work right?

The carbs seem to be much more common and parts for them are pretty cheap so so it seems a better descision to go with the newer ones but from what i have seen know one has said anything about them being put onto xj's so if anyone knows or has ideas please and thank you for sharing!

Why dont' you just ebay 550 carbs?

Being nearly winter, you should see more available as people tear apart their bikes they can't get started or run crappy (ie dirty carbs).

    Really. Good advice.

I have two spare racks (I have two 550s) one for "parts" one to rebuild as a good swappable spare.

One cost something like $19.00, one cost around $35 IIRC. Both off eBay. Just takes patience and vigilance.

If you get carbs from a different bike, you're looking at rejetting and the related expense.

One thing to keep in mind on 550 carbs: the Seca and Maxim are different. Secas have different pilot jets and different needles so be careful.
