    Hi all,

I'm having an issue with my XJ550. It ran like a top until I welded on the café seat and now it dies. It seems to be electrical but I'm not sure. I'm posting a picture for now and I'll follow up with symptoms after I try one last thing...

... ok, theory corroborated. It fires up and runs perfectly after I charge the battery. Looking for a charging problem?

Battery is new, brushes are a good length, everything seems to be plugged into the harness securely. I'm turning out 14~ volts when I'm running strong. Could this be a rotor issue?

Did you disconnect the battery before welding? If not, you may have fried a cell in it.

Yea I took the battery right out.

Also, now it doesn't seem like a charging issue. It runs for about two minutes and then dies. Has lots of spark.

    So probably not welding-related.

Sounds like a fuel delivery issue. Petcock, vac line, pop the gas cap to ensure it's not a plugged vent; etc.

Thanks all. After some more riding it seems like fuel to me as well. It runs fine with the cap off, so probably not the vent? I'm going to pull everything apart tomorrow. Thanks again and stay tuned...
