    Hi all,

I recently did a carb repair on my XJ550. After the carb job was done, I took the bike out for a quick ride around the block. The bike actually behaved well for the first 10 mins then I noticed gradual loss of power. Eventually it just turned off on me! The engine seemed like it overheated. I had to get the bike towed back to my place.

Now I'm trying to fix the issue. My first guess was the oil. When hooking the carbs back, one of the carbs flooded spilling gas all over the engine. So I changed the oil and filter. (currently the oil level sits just above the MAX, could this be an issue?) Now the bike would start for a few seconds then stalls. It sounds absolutely normal, there's no rattling noises nothing unusual that I haven't seen before. It just starts, then stops.

So far I just checked off the obvious: juiced battery, choke all the way in, gas in tank. I'm currently suspecting that maybe the mixture is running lean? When setting the mixture screws I set them to the same settings of 2.5 turns they were at beforehand. Also the bike was running just fine for 10 minutes already...

I'm doing some research right now as to what the potential issue could be. Asking if any one has any insights or had a similar issue themselves. Thanks! ~Dre

Sounds like it may have ran out of fuel, drain your float bowls and check the volume coming out of each bowl, you also may have a intermittent needle and seat sticking did you replace them on your carb repair and what kind if you did ?
