    Hi eveyone,

Would the XJ550 carbs fit my '82 XJ650RJ engine???

I've done a search for some answers but couldn't find any posted on here, so if the question has already been asked, sorry

    Cheers

Maybe, if the carbs spacing and spigot diameters are close enough to match w/o excessive persuasion. The 550 uses Mikunis, and the 650 has larger Hitachis. Not that it can't be done, just that there are a lot of things to stumble on.

If it physically fits, you'll probably have a lot of fun getting it to carburate properly. Have you ever played with slide cutaways?...this combination will probably take you there.

You may need different throttle and choke cables.

The airbox may bring some surprises. The intake boots may now be too long, too short, or the wrong size. Were you planning to use pod filters?...well, K&N doesn't list any air filter for an XJ550. You can let us know if the 650s fit. Overtightening the hose clamp is not an answer.

Last of all, presuming the jetting is optimized, you'll end up with a 650 that's been gelded with undersized carbs.

    Short answer. No.

Long answer. No, carb diameter is different and carb boots are not interchangeable with stud spacing on the head.
