    Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions for a rear suspension upgrade for the xj600? The xj600 is essentially the european version of the FJ600 and as far as I know the original suspension would have been the same.

    Cheers, Mike

A new shock. The best that you can afford.
    IKON, YSS, Ohlins, etc.
Progressive brand make good shocks at a fair price and have been well recieved by the XJ community, but I'm not sure if they have one to fit the FJ/XJ 600.

Other than that, make sure the swingarm bearings, and shock link bushings are in good shape.
For cost effectiveness you'll likely get more out of replacing the link bushings, since they tend to never get greased.

I bought a pair of the RFY shocks that are all over ebay. Low price and good looks. I have no idea how well they work on my 750 Maxim as the bike is not finished. They are sold in several lengths, and have ride ht adjustment on the lower end.
I did a mod on the shocks by replacing the rubber grommets with spherical rod bearings on both ends (about $6 per bearing).

RFY shocks aren't 100% reliable. They are prone to leaks. If you google RFY you can find issues with them. Check out what kmoe mentioned + Hagon shocks. For Hagon reach out to dave at http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/. Dave will work with you to figure out what shock best fits your bike + ride height + rider weight.

I totally forgot about Hagon. Thank's for mentioning them sybe.

Also keep in mind (those of you chiming in with more suggestions) that the FJ/XJ 600 has a monoshock rear. Not all suppliers/manufacturers have that in their line.

Unfortunately Dave Quinn shut operations down after many years (was just a couple of towns north of me).
If you want to research Hagon shock applications you can go to their home site here:
