XJ650 backfiring

    Hey fellow xj650 owners, so the other day i sent my carbs to get rebuilt and rejetted for pods and high flow exhaust. And today i put them on the bike and it fired right up but the bike was backfiring and popping, it sounded good but the backfires were scaring me a little. The spark plugs were black so maybe its running rich and if it is how should I fix it so it runs perfectly?????

    From what l have learned on the forum the XJ engines don't suit pods. Better with the factory setup so l have read.

    sooty and dry lean.
    you need to sync the carbs and adjust the mixture screws using a color tune.

    make sure your valves shims are in xpec is the first thing to do then sync ,mix adjust.

    are all your header pipes getting hot?

    Welcome to the wonderful world of PODS plenty claim their bike runs great with pods , but it takes work and might run good at high speed and a dog at low speed or run good at low speed and horrible at high speed . Agree with XJ550H. You need to synch carbs and colortune mixture , was jetting changed? Up 2 sizes larger is first step.
