XJ650 exhaust on XJ 750?

Anyone know if they can be swapped out? Have a poss lead on a complete 650 system for my 750.

With a little research I can see the 650 vs 750 is a different system. The 750 has a collector - 4 pipes welded together in a sandwhich with a crossover inside. The 650 uses individual Y pipes and a single crossover, so looks like I would have to swap out the entire system.

The 750 systems are really tough to find.

Any help would be appreciated.

What's wrong with the exhaust you have currently? Is it missing entirely, or are there pieces that need to be replaced?

FWIW, I checked to see what MAC showed for their 4-2 XJ650 vs XJ750 systems. They do not show them as interchangeable; they have separate part numbers for XJ750 SECA and XJ650 Maxim 4-2's.

 

my collector is completly rusted out, prob because DPO left the bike outside parked on a gravel/dirt walk.

You should be able to find a collector. I know I saw a whole system on eBay recently. If having no luck on eBay, sign up with http://www.uneedapart.com/ They put your parts request out on the wire to salvage yards nationwide and if someone has one they respond. I found most of both the exhaust systems for my Secas that way. You might also try: http://motolane.com/ as well as take a run at an eBay store called "Rice Paddy." Here's one from an '81 Seca 750, not sure if 100% same-same, not exactly same part numbers but head pipes ARE the same nbrs.

Head pipes the same on many of them, then it seems to change from there on.

I have a lead on a supposidly nice complete 650 system for short money, maybe I'll "make" it fit.

 

I have a collector sitting in the garage for a 750 xj. only thing I could purchase was a whole system to replace my right silencer and the only thing similar was for a 750. my bike, a 650 xj maxim, has the one cross-over pipe like you mentioned and so i kept the headpipes and crossover, cut the holy muffler off, welded an extension to slip the newer mufflers on and just completed that task this previous weekend. PM me if you consider buying just the collector for your 750. I have exactly what your description says for the "sandwich" collector and feel that we had the similar problem, with exact opposite systems. let me know...
