Xj650 maxim- air filter dry but smells like gas. Normal?

    The oil level has remained the same for months. Petcock seems to be working well ( tested it when I installed inline fuel filter). Oil doesn't smell like gas. Never had issue with overflowing carbs, etc .

    yes normal the carbs spit back fuel when valves close. if you have airbox boots off you can see it sometimes

    Reading here about all these cases of leaky petcocks, stuck floats n' needles, and gas leaking into air boxes got me nervous

    35 year old petcock on any bike is bound to leak ,or weep some needs to be fixed like any other part of the bike
    and its a motorcycle you are basicly riding a gas tank down the road squeezed between your knees
