I’m planning a long road trip on the xj650rj and I want a front wind screen or fairing of some sort to help with wind.

    my bike: 1982 Xj650rj

what are my options? An whats better, screen vs full fairing.

A full fairing would be best, but they are expensive. I use a Slipstreamer Spitfire on my 750, and it's nearly perfect (it's a relatively small windscreen that keeps the wind off of my shoulders). There are several aftermartket options that will work on your 650 Seca (Yamaha did not offer a factory windscreen or fairing). Which you go with will depend a lot on how long your road trip is, what the lowest temperature will be when you are riding, and how fit your upper body is. Even a small wind deflector can be of great benefit to get the air above shoulder level and reduce fatigue.

The small screen (which looks good) on my vmax deflects the wind right into my face, so in some ways it's worse...
So if you want to do it, do it properly.

Currently have a few windscreens I'm looking at. Most don't fit around the 9inch headlight on the bike, so I'm looking at windscreens that sit above the headlight and clamp onto the bars. Krator 15inch windscreen is my top pick right now https://www.amazon.com/Krator-Winds...p/B08JPKFQW5/ref=psdc_404685011_t5_B000HS4P0Q

Take a look at givi. I have same bike. Clamps to bars covers headlight pot.
