XJ650 / XV700 Virago petcock interchangeability?

    I've got a leaky petcock on an '81 650 Maxim. I've done a partial "Fitz rebuild" on it - pretty much everything except replacing the diaphragm - but it still drips just a little. It also does not function properly in the "on" position.

    I thought I'd try a spare petcock that I have from an '85 Virago 700. It appears to be identical. The first three digits of the part numbers don't match, but the rest are the same:

    XJ650: 3AL-24500-00-00
    XV700: 10L-24500-00-00

    The online parts catalog I looked at does not list them as interchangeable, but I'm really thinking they must be. Anyone else tried this?
