Hey guys, my bike took a parked fall a few weeks ago. The clutch lever broke off and has been replaced but will no longer return to it's original position after being pulled. I tried to ride it and immediately parked it as soon as I realised the clutch had not fully disengaged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

clutch perch bracket or bolt bent or bolt to tight?
    cable bent or crushed
    properly adjusted?
am i correct in thinking it fell on its left side?

check cable routing cable could have been pulled tight into frame clips

remove cable from clutch lever on motor see if it pulls in and out smoothly lube cable

Did you replace the lever or the whole assembly? Differences in the replacement will most likely require you to adjust the cable. I like to do the bulk of the adjustment on the engine side (with the perch barrel screwed almost all the way in) and then use the barrel adjuster on the perch for final minor adjustments.

Is lever correct for your bike or an eBay special? if it is a universal lever it might not be the Correct lever ...years ago I acquired a Virago 750 with a broke brake lever and bought one off of eBay guess what it was not correct , ended up getting a used lever that was the right one problem solved. Xj4ever has the correct lever .

Thanks for posting, I actually spent a couple days calling around to find the correct replacement locally. Did not feel like waiting for it to ship out so I'm sure it's the correct lever. I've been told to check if the cable is broken or tangled, and I really believe that's where the problem is.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely look into it, although I've tried a few different adjustments on the perch and came to the conclusion that nothing works so I'm convinced it's further down in the cable. Maybe the adjuster you're referring to.

Seems as though you're saying to check everything, it's possible that I wasn't thorough enough going over it the first few times. Hadn't even considered the perch or the bolt being the problem though. And yes, it fell on its left side.
