    Mac,

You asked if I would look into wether or not an RJ tank would fit on an LJ\LK.

I've done some preliminary checking. I think, in a very general sense, the tanks are interchangable. I haven't actually tried the RJ tank on my turbo, but I did loosen them both and have a look. The frame appears to be identical. and I think it will sit on the Turbo.

However, I see at least two problems (and there may be more.) The RJ tank is bigger. It extends back a couple of inches farther thant he original turbo tank. At the very least, the Turbo seat would need serious modification.

Also, the petcocks are of an entirely diffrerent nature. The XJ's petcock of the vacuum variety. It requires vacuum from the engine to draw fuel. My understanding is that this was tried on the turbo, but because of the turbo, there's not enough pressure to draw fuel. The turbo has a standard gravity feed petcock. Perhaps the petcocks are interchangeable. Not sure.

I will do more serious checking when weather permits. It's frighteningly cold at the moment - even in the garage.

I have to say though that I really like the look of the turb with some of the fairing parts off. I like the idea of a naked turbo. I wonder if an RJ seat might fit on the turbo.

    I'll keep you posted.

    Greg

Thanks a lot! I am asking about this stuff because on the XJ-CD there is a small article about a Yamaha employee who salvaged a 650 Turbo, installed N.A. Seca 650 bodywork and seat , an FZ750 fairing, FZ600 front end with FZR 1000 calipers, XJ900 and FJ600 wheels, and a Venture Royale rotors. It looked sharp. I was wondering how much is bolt on and how much needed fabrication. You can see a picture of it in my gallery once the admin's approve it.

Mac, that is a cool looking bike! It's a real mongrel. Looks like it's mainly a turbo with an RJ tank and front fender. I have no idea where that seat came from, but I like it! Thanks for posting that.

BTW, did you get my post about my RJ? It originated in your neck of the woods. In fact, when I got in last October, it still had the original plate surround from 'Hurst' Yamaha in Ottowa. Is that place still around? One nice thing about it being Canadian is that is has the factory ouil cooler. The bad thing (for me) is that the speedo has KPH in big numbers. My eyes aren't what they used to be and looking for the little numbers drives me nuts sometimes!

No Hurst Yamaha here anymore. Mine was bought at Capital City Cycle, another dead dealership.
