XJ750 forks vs XJ650 forks

    Hi,
    I have an XJ750 which the previous owner did an XJ650 front end swap on. Both secas.

    I'm really pushing the front suspension to and beyond it's limits even tho I weigh 110lbs.

    First it is too soft and I am bottoming out. But there's also not enough preload and the weight bias is too far to the back.

    I think i'd prefer something lower in the front end so the bike naturally has more weight on the front wheel, then more preload for less dive, and also stiffer spring to help when i go over bumps when i'm hard on my brakes.


    Let me know what options there are.
    I've put new oil and overfilled slightly half a year ago. And the springs are progressive springs and from what I'm aware of they didn't come from the factory with progressive springs so I'm assuming someone upgraded them already.

    You could make one inch spacers from "Schedule 40 PVC" pipe then slide your fork tubes up into the Triples an inch or until they almost hit the handlebars.

    You could also try a 15 or 20 W oil for extra stiffness. Maybe you have the "wrong" Progressive springs.

    I thought higher oil would only affect the dampening effect?

    So the stock springs are completely uniform gaps throughout correct?

    If I remember correctly, the top cap of my fork is held tight by the top crown clamping onto it. Not to mention i've dented the fender when it hit the brake proportioning valve.... Not sure how I'm gonna find a middle ground.

    I haven't looked at 650 springs, but the stock 750 springs have a wider, and narrower coil spacing.
    Is there any way you can check and compare the free-length of your springs to "new" ??

    While the 650 forks don't have air-assist, the volume of air is COMPRESSED and helps the springs.
    Adding more oil will give you more spring in addition to the spacers.

    You might need different springs.

    when you changed the fork oil, what Wt did you put in?
    when you say progressive springs , as in progressive wound or Progressive brand. i think their all progressive wound and how can you tell Progressive brand from oem, the only way i know of is the pre-load spacer length.....?
    if you lower the front by raising the forks in the clamps, a lot of things change but i don't think the weight bias (C.G.) will change much at all
