A friend of mine offered me his xj750 head gasket to see if i will fit my xj650. His theory is if the heads can swap why not the gaskets. Has anyone tried it? the markings on it is 5G2-11181-10 and i cant find anything online about swapping the gaskets.

By part number it's not the same head gasket ( I think the thickness is different, which will change the compression ratio), but there is more than the head gasket that seals the head to the cylinders. You'll need a cam chain tunnel gasket, the YICS o-rings, and the special-shaped oil feed o-rings. You'll also want to anneal or replace the special-sized copper crush washers that seal the oil-feed to the head (the outer two studs on #4).

I already did all that. My funds are low so my friend offered it for free to see if it will work. The only difference between the xj650 and xj750 part number are the first 3 numbers.

    Hoping it will work.

The XJ750 engines have a larger bore, would not recommend............

I knew there was some other difference that I was forgetting. Thanks.

Those are important numbers. Check out Chacal's post. It won't work.

As chacal mentioned the difference in bore size will leave a gap between the head, and cylinder all the way around the bore.
The correct head gasket is not that expensive.
