It will work, but don't think that it will sound that much different than the 650 horn (besides that you'll only have half of the frequency range).

There is a little knurled screw on the back side of the horn housing that can be adjusted to modify the tone, apply some penetrating oil before you try to adjust it, they tend to be seized after 30+ years of non-use......

Also, you might want to try to hook the horn up directly to the battery to see how it sounds, the stock wiring system can have a lot of voltage drop thru it and can make a horn sound weak and tinny. If I recall correctly, next to the starter motor, the horn uses more amps than any other device on the bike.

Get yourself a Hella 3FH007424801, and you'll be the loudest bike in town.
IIRC they also come in black.

Thanks man - it looks awesome but I was looking for something that was more plug and play with the stock setup and would fit in the same space. This looks a bit too big maybe.

People laugh when I honk the rebel's horn. No, not honk, beep! Everything on that thing is tiny, EXCEPT FOR THE RIDER!

I've got an xj550 maxim with the stock horn. Any recommendations for a louder replacement that still fits in the same space between engine and frame? Will the ones recommended above fit?
