For the people who have not seen one , these pictures are it and that whole "unit" is the repair kit available from yammy home....but not that one as is broken...

Notice the cracks arrowed , not all do this , some the rollers just wear out/get flat spots and loose grip on the gear/shaft that runs inside it..

Holy Cow!!! What were you doing to that clutch?!!! Did you put to much power through the starter? I'm impressed, never seen that happen to the clutch ring.

Did you replace the starter clutch by splitting the cases ... or, did you take the shortcut through the alternator housing?

I think I'm going to have to a step-by-stepper ... with ample photos of how to do the shortcut. But, I'm going to have to wait until after the New England riding seasons ends. I have to abide by XJ-Oath ... "If it aint broke ... don't fixt it"... or you'll screw it up and have to really fix it the hard way ... which I aint doing until the leaves turn brown and all fall off the trees.

A split the cases job rickomatic , and after that realizing the year of these bikes and some with a few miles/k's on them the primary chain guide or even the chain itself would and probably be a issue in itself.

If your clutch is in distress, one should also worry about the chain guide that WILL fail in short order. Split the case and order a new guide ($20 from BikeBandit.com), cheap insurance.
