I did a search but wanted to double check.

I took my Maxim to class yesterday evening and everything was working great. This morning I decided to ride it to work and now the Tachometer's not working quite right. It's showing RPMs, but not as high as it should be. The more I run it, the better it seems to get, but still not showing as high as it did yesterday at the same speeds / engine rev.

There are no leaks, it hasn't been dropped, and I don't think I pinched anything putting it into the garage last night. Cables all look good to my newbie eye.

I read a post from a while ago stating that these tachs don't like the cold, is that true? It is a bit chillier today than it was last night. Anyone care to hit me with a clue-by-four?

Consider this: Oil will get thicker with decreasing temperatures. The pivot of your tachometer should have 24 year old oil on it. Odds are good if you take the tach, clean the pivots and lube with a good light oil (DO NOT use 3-in-1, it is vegetable base and will gum up in short order) such as sewing machine oil or the like. Your problem will most likely go away.

Speedos too. The stuff you find that has all the physical properties of tree sap is actually the original lubricant in its new form...
