    Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone can help? I am in the process of rebuilding the forks on my XJ750E-II. This model uses the XJ900 chassis so the forks are the same as the XJ900RK (as shown in XJ900RK Parts Catalogue and Service Manual) with the anti-dive mechanism.

The R/H is original and doesn’t appear to have been touched previously, unfortunately a PO has been into the left and appears to have lost 3 parts, two Valve Springs (actually very thin shim like spring washers) and an Oil Lock Piece Valve (actually just another thin shim like flat washer) which sit on the Damper Rod under the Oil Lock Piece (Tapered Spindle). If anyone has spares of these parts amongst their stuff I would be happy to buy them. Please let me know.

Next question, in what order are they assembled? The service manual indicates to fit the two springs, the valve and the tapered spindle in that order then shows a picture a picture of the valve, springs and spindle (with taper facing in the opposite direction). The Parts catalogue is even more confusing as it shows spring, valve, then spring. Alas I didn’t note the order during disassembly as I did the L/H one first and found no parts. They came out as a bit of a surprise as these things do.

Any ideas? Also can anyone confirm the tapered spindle faces upwards with the taper towards the top of the forks (as per service manual assembly diagram at the begining of the forks chapter and parts list). This would appear to be how they came out.

The more I look at the tapered spindle (oil lock piece) the more it looks like all this valve arrangement sits in the other end which would mean the taper faces down?

    I'm confused.

    Any help appreciated - Kiwi

Parts should be on your door step Thursday morning :)

Sorry but I'm not sure what way around it fits together.

Sorry I haven't responded by email as yet, Slingshot appeared to be having issues with their email server last night.

This is the second time Alive has "saved my bacon". Top guy and I can't thank him enough for his time, efforts and generosity.

I think I've worked out how it all assembles. I've gone with the Parts Manual order as there is a good write up on the Yamaha Venture website which uses the same system and it confirms this order.

    Cheers - Shane

No problem... If I'd realised sooner who you were I'd have discounted the price on those carbs too ;)
