xs 750 shaft any good ?

    my wife owns a xj maxim 700, trying to get a set of forks, for it, is hard,
    ive just spoken to a mate of mine, and blow me, in his back garden, he has a 750 sx with k an n filters crome enjine casings, ect, no handle bars, and the tank,is missing the cap,so rusty tank, hes offered it to me, for £50.are the forks smaller, so they wont fit on the xj or is it worth getting it back on the road?

    Everything I have read tends toward the negative on this bike. Grenading gearboxes and camshaft sprockets that wear out prematurely are the main culprits that I know of.

    Might be good for a winter hack, if it can be made to run VERY cheaply, otherwise, I'd give it a pass.

    ta for that,i have been told i can have it, so carbs of, shaft and wheels of, and forks, starter motor ect, then bin the rest, im LOOKING for a cheap motor around the £600 range but nowt in dorset, england

    Not a bad deal for the price. I believe that would be an XS750. I've had a couple, and currently own a 77 XS750 2D that I rebuilt. Most of the tranny problems were with the early 76 & 77's but there are still a few in the 78/79's. A good resource for it is here: Yamaha-triples.org.

    Or go to mikesxs.com I like these bikes they have a nice look to them. They really lend themselves well to cafe racers

    You might try Ebaying the final drive from this bike (shaft included). Apparently they can be fitted to an XS1100 with little trouble, and it drops the highway rpms by a significant amount. A bit less poke, but better top-end and fuel economy.
