    Guys,

since I can get an xj700s for a good deal I'm hanging around on this forum.
    Thanks for everyone's input!

So I'm checking out what kind of mods are possible with the bike and found this xs1100 on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihPLDMTRBPs. I'm wondering if it's possible to create this from the xj700 and how hard it is.

I'm quite technical and am able to use fabbing tools, but it will be my first real moto project.

So how do you think about it?

First - Welcome to the site !!
UMM, 12 degrees of cornering clearance?? My neighbor just bought a Harley FLHX with 31* of clearance, stock, but anyway,

Yes, you can make almost the same bike, but a tad smaller, details, ETC.
The driveshaft WILL work at an extreme angle - when raking the fork that much you gain "trail" but it will want to flop over at low speeds.

Search for the hard-tail builds in "Modifications". Tons of info. Don't go cheap on your welds.

From this forum I assumed the driveshaft can only handle a small angle?

I saw most of the hardtails on this forum, but there aren't much trail mods and nobody went low as this one. But I realise this bike will hit the street while turning.

Do you think the the frame end is extended?

One guy on here took the shocks off, let the frame drop to the tire and welded in that position, and the driveshaft worked at that angle reliably.

I like the overall look of this orange bike -

    orange 550

As you can tell, there's clearance problems with lowness and long wheel bases, but it's part of the radical look.

    650 beast

Kevin11's bike - you should read his build. He added the front of another bike to his frame. 15,000 miles of success.

I personally wouldn't want a bike so low that it scrapes while making a left at a busy intersection. I guess you could add some body English in tight turns.

That's awesome! No need for a sidestand! Think of the weight saving from that alone!! :D

It certainly is possible to take an XJ700 and make it into a bike that cannot turn corners.

I take it you want something to look at and not ride?

You do realize that a bike like that cannot take a tight corner at speed?

That guy on the orange chopper forgot to take his rotor with him, how's he supposed to get into any parking lots ;)
