xs1100, similar motor to xj ?

    hey guys i was just wondering if the xs1100 has the same or similar motor to a 1100 xj ?, is there any inherent problems with the 1100's ?

    Same engine. There's a well known problem with second gear crapping out. Apparently there was a spacer installed wrong from the get go, and Yamaha service manuals all show this spacer installed on the wrong side of the gear. If you want to know more about this, and see some really nice XS/XJ11, go to the Merriam Cycles website. The guy has a whole business built around that bike. He thinks its the best engine ever built, but then, he would say that wouldn't he.
