    I just got my first road bike, xs400, and it starts up fine but if i leave it to idle for a few it just dies. When i bought it the original owner was nice enough to ride it to my house and it was fine and i rode it around also with no problems. Now I've only had the bike 2 weeks and i just want to ride but i cant with it acting like this. I realize that it could probably use a good cleaning of the carbs but not even 2 weeks ago it was fine. Any and all help would be appreciated, thank you.

    First things I'd check;
    1) Check for a clogged fuel screen or a petcock that doesn't flow. Make sure the vacuum line to the petcock isn't pinched or disconnected.
    2) Check your induction boots for cracks, leaks or loose/missing bolts. Spray around the boots with WD40 and see if your idle RPM changes. Most likely cause is an induction leak or interrupted fuel flow.
    3) Check your air filter to make sure it's not clogged.
    Let us know what you find.

    Well i think i figured out that it only seems to act up after a rain, i dont have a garage or a cover yet, i think something is getting wet and shorting. I rode it to work last night and back this morning without any problems, course it didnt rain yesterday so it had time to dry out. Maybe the casing on the coils are cracked and letting moisture in? Well i think ill be checking that out this weekend. Thanks for the comment, ill be looking into those suggestion also. Thanks.
