So you XJ1100 riders out there: What is it like to ride one of these monsters?

My XJ650 has all the power it needs to get up and haul a$$ so will these things snap your neck during acceleration?

Any problems with the brakes getting velocity below light speed in a hurry?

IMWTK ( inquiring minds want to know)

Just figure it this way. It would be like if your 650 had about 30 more HP. If you can imagine twisting the throttle in second and feel the front tire lift off the ground. Click third and hear it squeel when it hits the pavement again. The torque these bikes put out is unreal. Keep in mind the 1100 is a way heavier bike all around also. I hear the chain drive XS 1100's are even faster. (less HP burned up in the final drive)

The 1100 is a completly new world. It is a great bike for us larger that average folks, much bigger and more powerfull than the other XJ's. The XJ1100 will just haul a bit more a$$ that the other XJ's. I have ridden 650 and 750 XJ's, they are a bit small for my 270# frame.

    Great string.
Anyone know if the final drive from a xj 1100 will bolt up to a xj650?

i dont think it will bolt up why would you want the final drive hooked up to your 650? the final drive off a 750 will fit . if you were talking about the motor wont even come close the 750 motor barely fits

I'm trying to figure a way to get my RPMs down. 6k at 70mph is dumb.

I believe they are higher RPM models by design...

What is "normal" rpms for crusing at 55 on a 750 maxim (assuming properly tuned and near perfect, blah blah).

I suppose what is normal gear for that speed is also a good question for a newbie

Bill, settle down my friend! The Yammy engineers likely designed your bike in the late 70's early 80's to maximize 5th gear fuel efficiency at the then 55 mph national speed limit.

Wait a minute. That isn't a good argument.

How about........ In order to be a good American you should never drive faster than 55 mph whether or not the speed limit is higher as fuel efficiency decreases as your speed increases and we each need to do our part to conserve precious fossil fuel.

That's not a very good argument either is it?

How about asking the old timers from the forum whether it hurts to run all day long at 6000 RPM and whether the cost, hassle and loss of performance of changing the gearing outweighs the rewards.

Then just pull the trigger, twist the handle and let her fly down the road at whatever RPM's she settles into.

    That's the ticket!

    Loren

BTW The BEST way to reduce RPM's at cruise velocity would be to change the 5th gear set in the transmission to a taller ratio while leaving the first 4 gears at their current ratios. This would leave your current performance intact while dropping R's in 5th gear. Unfortunately, not gonna happen with off the shelf parts.
