Sell it buy a 4 cyl if you want to go faster. There is nothing you can do without spending more then you paid for it to make it run well. Bolt on pipes do nothing jetting the carbs is beyond a major pain in the butt especially if its pre 88. If you like the bike leave it alone or else you will be spending a lot of money for 1 or 2 horsepower. I have had 700 750 and 1100. I have swapped cams carbs ect. The only thing that was easy on them was adjusting the valves. When they designed the bike they left sharp edges everywhere so anything you do your hands will be hamburger lol. Its a v twin there is no reason in the world that it should take hours to pull the carbs you have to pull the intake manifolds to get the carbs off i made tools i could get them off in 15 min if changed the inner manifold bolts to allen screws. Oh don't worry about aftermarket air cleaners. The rubber boots that normally hook to the air cleaner hook to the frame and then has an air filter in the chrome dome on the right side the left has relays in it.

Look up Doc's Chops Virago projects. Check out his seat subframe: Doc's Chops. Lots of café interest in Viragos now. Not really sure it makes the Virago faster, but it looks a lot better (IMO).
