I have had some 1980 Suzuki GS750 carbs mounted before, with MUCH work to make fit. I now am mounting FJ600 carbs AND manafolds on with pod filters. Dont have a photo sorry.

I believe the 550 and 600 engines are interchangeable so go for a set of XJ600 carbs and manifolds (Mikuni BS32). The FZ600 aircooled is another possible doner as the smaller carbs were BS30's to fit the frame.

The later diversion carbs are physically much different so wouldn't easily fit.

thanks for your reply ... my carbs got ruined with the crappy fuel our goverment is selling, i left my bike in storage over winter months with a half tank of gas and it destoryed my tank and carbs so i have to replace them..... but getting carbs for yamaha xj 550 seca is impossible in northern ireland there was very few 550's imported to the uk, they were mostly the xj600 and xj650 which i can get carbs for, i was wondering if they would fit and work on my 550, the xj 600 diversion carbs seen to have a wire as well for frost i think, would it affect the runing without this wire,........... many thanks philip

Can't be sure about this, but my XJ550 Maxim uses Mikuni BS28 carbs and everything sold represents as fitting both seca and maxim. We need the local 550 expert to find this post and weigh in. I wouldn't go buying till you get a definitive answer.

    From Chacal's XJ4Ever catalog:

With respect to the fuel. You can buy an "ethanol eliminator" which will remove it's undesirable qualities. I buy ethanol free gas, but since you can't be certain I also use additives that will chemically combine and keep it from varnishing the internals. Your best bet is to try and find good gas and then don't ever let it just sit in your tank/carbs. Just like you shouldn't let your air-conditioning sit all winter you need to run your bike occasionally-Or remove the offending crappy fuel and fog it.
