Sorry to post this but given how expensive and delicate diaphragms are, most cleaning articles start with the bottom of the carb, floats, jets etc and look at the diaphragm and needle later. Or should you remove those delicate items first?

My carbs are Mikuni 32mm but I have a haynes and the theory must be the same.

    Thanks.

I mean, while they are off the bike might as well check em and make sure your diaphrams are ok and the needles are the correct size for your bike. Clunk test is always a good thing to do too. Might as well give the whole carbs a sweet and complete once over the first time, that way you know what you're getting yourself into later.

When I start on a rack I get 4 numbered trays & the diaphams & Zebedees are the first to come out, I like to know the really bad news first.

You have to pull the diaphragms and slides before you can remove the emulsion tube. I usually start with the diaphragms and enrichment plungers.

I do the bottoms first then top.I don't see any advantage either way since the slides and diaphragms aren't really exposed to any harm until you remove the hats.
