So I'm about to strip my '85 XJ700N and have the frame modified to accept an aftermarket tank. My problems started when I tried to re-seal the inside of the original tank. The seal crap ended up desolving and got in the carbs and, well, I finally got them cleaned up. Ran the bike with an aux tank after carb cleanup, but still need to dial float levels a bit tighter, as it was running lean. No detailed tuning done yet.

Anyway, I did away with the vacuum petcock long ago, went with a simple on/off petcock. Now, I'm wondering if it would be feasible to blank off the Yics port, and just hose manifold the vacuum tits on the intake boots between the carbs and the engine, to act as the Yics port. This would be way easier to facilitate syncing. Wonder, wonder, wonder.

What do all you gurus think? Has anyone thought of this or tried this?

The vacuum ports on the intake boots have no connection to the YICS ports. They are just manifold vacuum ports, and you only need them when synching the carbs (now that you have a manual petcock). Hooking them all togther has the same effect as capping them individually.

There is no advantage to permanantly blocking off the YICS ports, and the blanking tool isn't really needed for synching the carbs.

    Some homework for you.
YIKES!: ALL ABOUT THE "YICS" SYSTEM.
