Ok so I said screw it and went out to the garage and tried to do it myself, so I did a small step by step on removing the front turn signals and installing new ones mounting them on was the farthest I got until I ran out of kerosene in my nipco heater and started to freeze my ass off

On my 81 xj650 on the front taillights you will see 3 bolts and a screw two of those bolts is to hold the turn signal brace and one is to adjust the turn signal up and down and the screw is under neath to hold the signals in place keep it from falling off I you also have to remove the chrome front cover plate that is in front of the forks that cover your front brake lines thst is held by two bolts those two bolts also serve to hold the turn signal brace down once you get all of the bolts taken off set them aside somewhere to not lose them the turn signal brace will fall right off disconnect the wire that goes to your turn signals for my aftermarket signals I had to modify the turn signal bracket and do a little cutting to be able to put my signal in through the brace and be able to bolt it down from the back as you see in the pics

Well I'm glad that you got it figured out. Sorry that none of us noticed your question beforehand though.

For the turn signals, dark green is the right, dark brown is the left, and black is common. Your nes signals look to have a lead for them to be hooked up as running lights. You can keave that disconnected for now, or wire them in to a switched circuit. I like to use the horn circuit for that since the horns get little use, and are convieniently located.
