Carburetor xj750 maxim

    Alright guys I've done new fork seals and dust caps, the engine swap and harness swap, etc. I just finished my valve shim adjustment and the little lady sounds amazing. Such a different idle and rev and I can't even believe it. So I have one question. First off thanks to all the guys that helped me get this far. Kmoe, Dave and a few others I'll mention in a bit.
    My question has to do with when I started my bike today, it idled perfectly, then I let it idle for about 5 minutes. When I put it into first gear it turned off. I read an article about how to set the height of the floats by measuring 18 mm from the top of the bottom of the carb body without the gasket to the top of the bottom of the float. (If you understand what I mean) The carburetor is upside down obviously when I set these float heights and at an angle. I adjusted them to 18 mm but then cylinder 3 leaked from the jets on the intake boot side. I adjusted them down but then cylinder 2 was leaking. I'm not sure how to ensure a dead set measure on the float height. Now it idles as if I'm not getting enough fuel on 1 or more cylinders (idles like garbage) again thanks for your time guys with this post and all my others I couldn't have done this build without you all

    If the engine died the moment that you put it into first gear then you have an electrical problem. Specifically the ignition safety circuit believes that the side-stand is deployed.
    The most common cause of this is a dirty side-stand switch. Peel the rubber gator from the switch, spray down the switch plunger into the housing with contact cleaner, working the switch in and out to get the crud to flush away. Follow up with a dry-film silicone lubricant. If the problem persists then check the side-stand relay; they are often replaced with the wrong relay. The correct realy will have a blue dot of paint at the connector; the relay is located under the left side cover, just below the regulator.

    I thought that too Kmoe, however I rode 30 laps around my property last Thursday yet not suddenly I'm having this carb problem. I see 100 posts about measuring the fuel levels but you're my most trusted source and your advice has led me to the furthest I could possibly be so whatever link you choose is the best I will follow. As for the safety switch, I can tell you the fuse under the gas tank and the fuse under the regulator and tci box on the side of the bike have been switched with each other. Doesn't make much sense I know but my bike will only turn over with them like that, if I put the fuses where they go, my bike won't turn over and the red oil light turns on on my dash haha I'm sorry man but you're the best

    Relay, not fuse. Please make sure that you are identifying them correctly and really do have them in the correct location.

    As for setting the fuel levels it's really best to do that with the carbs off the bike.

    Sudden stalling the moment that you put it into first is not a fuel related issue. If it were stalling as you let the clutch out to pull away then it might be fuel related.

    Apparently I can start my bike up with my kick stand down K-moe and I know that is not supposed to happen lol

    That is suppoed to happen only when the transmission is in neutral.
