Put the bike in gear and try again.

i'm thinkin we're on the same page but maybe not. its about a thousand times easier to just undo the pivot bolts (underneath chrome caps if your lucky) and pull the whole rear end assembly off in one piece. your u-joint will just remain in the engine block (yes the engine can still be removed with it poking out) and the whole drive shaft and rear axle business and what not will all be off in one piece... i'm really hoping that makes sense but i'm starting to doubt it now... oh well i'll take pictures if i have to.

Thanks 07 I have got it off now I did not know of any other way to remove engine thanks now I will know next time, that sure sounds easier becauce the way I used worked but it would have been nice to have it off as one unit, instead of two.

    07spacker,

I'm in the process of removing my motor and need to disengage the drive shaft. Are the four bolts under the rubber boots what you were referring to? I'm having a little difficulty undoing the bolts so thought I would check.

    cheers, oby

Yes sir there is four bolts under the rubber boot, Here is how I removed mine I used wrench pen. oil let it sit over night this maybe a mistake but I just cut the boot off, probably come back as one of those parts you can no longer get. Then I put the bike in gear and loosen the bolts, but someone here posted that you can remove the swing arm bolt and it should come free as a whole unit. let me know which way you remove yours GOOD LUCK. P.S. use a good open end wrench. 8O

    Removal is the easy part.

I'd like to have a recording of the language that's been spewed from the frustrated tongues of those who have to get the Driveshaft back into the splines of the Universal Joint with arms not long enough and fingers too big!

I'll bet there'd be a lot of "Bleeping-out" of the bad words!

I found leaving the bike in neutral and using the rear brake to freeze it up work best...
