    Hello! Greetings from DK
    I have a question.

    I have just bought a xj 650 4k0 from 84
I'm wondering which parts are similar to other xj 650 models, and which aren't?
Is there a chart somewhere where I can compare oem numbers? I can't even find the bike on partzilla or other pages :/

For a starter i need a new ignition switch, and I can only find 2, which are quite expensive /:
So is it possible to get one that fits other models, or is it just bad luck?

I really hope you can help me in some way here :)
    Xo My

For you, any of the xj650 parts will swap out, except possibly some of the transmission parts, as I understand it. ...the 1980 (and maybe (81) had few in internal differences and some parts can not interchange). Otherwise, as long as you stay with the 'european' xj650 (NOT the 'Maxim") you'll be fine. although, there are SOME parts that do have interchanges to the other models.

For the ignition switch, any xj650, xj750 from 80-83 (84) will work

Check with Len Chacal, xj4ever, in the upper righ-hand corner of your screen. Click on the logo......or easier----email him at: info@xj4ever.com

just a note the bikes with the atari package have a different ignition switch more wires and a longer base

you can see it in this rebuild/clean link
Clean and lube the ignition switch

The XJ 650 did not have an Atari,so maybe stay away from those from the 1982 XJ750 maxim...Which I don't believe you got anyway… … I am not aware of a difference in the switches though.

also, do not use the switch from the 750 seeker, the base of that has a different shape where it mounts.

if you do get one of those switches, I do believe that if you disassemble it, you can switch the top with the cylinder and use the other base.

for the atari models just more wires come out of the switch a set of 3 and a set 2 wires, both red/yellow.
if it will fit in the space would be good for running some front white led lights as seen in another thread
    More light at night.

the key body is interchangeable for those looking for lock sets

    Allright.
    I have 4 totalt.
    1 red, 1 blue, 1 red/blue and a brown.
So a regular one I presume?
More light would require some attachment hacks, so maybe I should just start with the cheaper solution, and buying a regular one.
