Hello, so I've ran into an issue while trying to rebuild the forks on this 1984 xj750 seca

I have one fork removed from the bike, and then I compressed the cap and removed the circlip.

The issue is that the cap won't come out, it's meant to pop out from the tension of the spring with the circlip removed but it seems to be seized in there.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can solve this??

    Thanks in advance

Turn it upside down a hit it against a block of wood see if that does it. Keep yourself clear of the shock leg in case the spring pops out.

Yeah I tried this already, unfortunately it didn't work.

I also used a bottle jack to compress the fork against wood and it hasn't moved at all.

I have it soaking in wd40, maybe I'll try it again with some time for the oil to help free it

If you have a Dremel with a wire brush, run that around in the circlip groove to remove the rust crustys. Soak good with your favorite penetrant. With a hammer and wood block, tap the cap gently DOWN into the tube...lightly and about a thousand times. The spring will push it back up incrementally as the gunk clears out.
