Saturday night to Monday morning progress on project 750/900. Will be tagged as
special fx900.
Front end almost ready to install. Safety inspection on the 8th.

 

So far, so good! Good luck, we will be watching and wishing you well. I do like those Diversion fairings.....

Thanks. This is based on an 84 xj750rl in Canada. We call those fj600 fairings here.
The rest is 83 900 engine, 86 fj600 bodywork, fz750 forks, fzr400 fr wheel and diversion rear wheel.

 

Engine slid in peacefully on new cradle lift recently welded up. Makes it an easy one man job. Better pics of it won't load right now

 

Some good progress today
Exhaust welded up and installed
Cables sorted. Brake hoses being developed. Or robbed from other units.
Gets a test drive soon hopefully

 

@Jarich, that engine cradle is slick! Could we impose on you for info or pics of how you attach it to the engine? Or is it attach the engine to it.....

 

That is something my 63-year-old back wishes I thought of 40 years ago. I bolt onto the intake manifolds with two of these brackets and slide the c-shaped cradle into them. These were drilled for the 550/600 head and were just being drilled to bolt to the 900 head.
The top mount slides sideways to allow perfect level.
Once I have it on a sliding beam it will be the easiest one man engine install system.
The cradle is from an old exercise machine and it was exactly the shape when I went looking for something like this. But it could be easily duplicated. Even if you put a bar across the top and had a guy on either side lifting it would still be very easy.
We didn't even so much as bump the frame putting in the engine.

No problem and thanks for the interest. I have better pictures but have trouble with loading some. Everything's from the same camera but probably 30 or 40% of my pictures say an error occurred
I switched longer rear shocks and drop the front and think it really improved the stance

 

When is a pod filter not a pod filter. Stock 900 airbox was modified to accept a Weber style air filter. It all fits neatly under seat and can be easily serviced in place. With the stock mufflers on the bike I expect to hear a fair bit of air noise under there. Like flipping the lid of an old Chevy air cleaner

 

It's officially a certified road unit.

 

Congrats on your official certification. Well done. Your air box mod looks very interesting but how is that going to work in the rain? How is it running or have you not had a chance to test it yet?

 

Thanks. Places are busy around here so I had to book that two and a half weeks ago. So the pressure was on
I've got about 20K on it so far and as fast as about 100Kph only. But I haven't noticed a single glitch in the jetting app. I put it all back to stock to start and expected some but needles and low speed are certainly happy.
I'm kind of a veteran of the pod wars and fall on the side of you can in fact make them work. This is like a more protected version of that to me. There could be some ducting Incorporated later to make it draw from under the seat but it's fine so far. If you look at the stock 750 900 airbox it's heavily restricted / biased to the right side. Hard to get flow to the other side. Especially with the long snorkels of the 750. This is kind of my way of addressing that problem.
The chassis is working really nice. It'll probably get a top clamp kit to put handlebars on for next year. Just a little more comfortable angle than these clip-ons can do

I spoke with someone from the 550 Seca race camp then, was that you?
I was on track with my KTM supermotard.

 

That was great event and we had the pair of 550s there. I ripped around on the Seca Beast all weekend

 

I must say your 550 Seca racers are very cool. Loved seeing them on the track. The Frankenstein 550 above is crazy

 

Can you tell us about your race motors?
Carbs, crank, pistons, cams -displacement
Mods?

 

Thanks for that. We have a fair bit of time into the pair of 550s and they are working really well now. I am struggling to get ready for a trip so not sure how much time I spend right now but I will do a bit of a run down on them
The teaser is 84rwhp out of the 705 which is now a 740 and waiting for it's first run.
