In which case there is probably a bare wire somewhere in the harness, or a "clever" PO rewiring.

boil the carb bodies and that will remove the varnish. Then you can blow it out with carb cleaner and air and it should be good as far...

Yep. Those are the prices I was seeing in 2007. Rarely do you find an engine listed for less than $300 anymore.
That's the diode block. It is a component of other circuits, not just the signals.
