    Hey everyone.
    I have a 1980 yamaha 650 maxim.
I have been having an issue when I accelerate fast on the throttle, it seems to hesitate or stutter for a second and then takes off pretty quick but just for normal riding and accelerating it does just fine. It idles great and has great throttle response.
Today I was riding to work going about 60mph and I could feel it stutter and jerk slightly and giving it more throttle did not help and then it just lost power and died. Still had auxiliary power but could not start it back up or pop the clutch.

Things I have done to it.

Pressure test- 150 on all four cylinders
    Spark on on four plugs
Zestfully cleaned the carbs about a dozen times.
Float bowl level correct(clear tube method)
    Synced the carbs

I'm suspecting the TCI UNIT IS BAD/GOING OUT. This did happen one other time.
Any Ideas, comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

If you suspect ignition problems, have you tested the coils and caps besides just seeing if they spark?

That’s an easier next step than finding a replacement TCI unit.

I don’t want to hijack your post, but I have a XJ 750 midnight maximum 83. As I’m riding down the road it will suddenly just power off like I hit the Killswitch but I didn’t hit the Killswitch. My battery seems fine. Oh my connections seem tight. Any ideas what might be causing this?

I would check your voltage on battery make sure it's at least 12.5v how old is the battery? Be sure to check your grounds and mabye your fuse box too. Hard to say really.

You can take the back of the TCI it may be corroded , spray a little contact cleaner on circuit board, reassemble and see what happens
