The point being, from what I understand (I've never tried), pods are notorious for making the carbs extremely difficult to bring into proper tune. Chacal has a section of his volume "In The Church of Clean" devoted to pods. Scroll down to where it mentions rejetting.

I removed my factory airbox and put pod air filters on and didn't really have any tuning problems. I might have gotten lucky but I think it's just not as bad as some people try to make it sound and most of the people that will tell you they don't work have never actually tried. The important thing is to do some research and find out what has worked for other people. Here's the basics that I have gathered:

Make sure the carbs are tuned and the bike is running as good as possible before making the switch.

Use the stock carb-to-airbox boots instead of the rubber boots that come with the pods. I think this is really the key to avoiding problems and not sacrificing performance.

You will have to rejet the carbs. Read chacal's last comment on this thread:

You will probably also need to "shim the needle" which just consists of slipping the appropriate size washer (or two, depending on your setup and the washer thickness) over the needle as a spacer.

    Hi Ted,

Would you mind going into more detail about shimming the needle? I'd appreciate it.
