    I have a 1983 XV750 midnight edition
Are the carburetors compatible between 82 and 83? Planning on just buying a rebuilt one.

Did you mean xj 750 ? I have a 82 xj 750 maxim and a 83 xj 750 midnight maxim. Put the 2 carbs side by side they look to be the same. It"s been a while but i believe that all of the jets are the same, so i would say yes. Someone here on the forum might say different.

I had an 82 Virago , yes carbs were the same from 81-83 here is a tip the K&L overhaul kits came with 122 jets these are fine for 84-87. However the early carbs require 124 front and 134 rear cylinder what ever you do keep the airbox and filter....because the starter suck and you want easy starting . I made the mistake of using the 122 main the rear pipe would glow orange , I found out about the jets by a small blurb in the manual, switched these out and it fixed this problem. Going up one size on the pilot jet help idle and starting .

Lots of V twins run a richer rear head because the air hitting the head is already warm. I had a Suzuki Madura 1400 and even the rear carb was different than the front one.
