Fitz the o-rings from the pilot mixture screws were all replaced at the beging of all this. also i will be redoing the float and bench sync when i get the time. Im a college student and its finals week this week so bike is put on hold for now.

OH and thanks Rick i will look into doing that when i go to do the vacuum sync first things first though lets get it running at least somewhat nice before i do the vacuum sync again.

OK well i did the float sync and the bench sync again. put the carbs back on the bike starts right up with a little help from the choke. but it smokes even more now. and it makes a pop sound from the exhaust every couple of seconds. and the bike still wont idle with out the choke. It also even with a little choke on will rev up to 3000 rmps and then drop to 1200. then after a bit rise again. also If i have the choke on i can use the throttle but if i turn the choke off i have no throttle control at all.

Is all of this while it's in the garage?

Is it roadworthy, the brakes OK, etc?

I won't idle without the choke until it's fully warmed up even once properly tuned.

The smoking could still be due to not having been FULLY warmed up, as in 10-mile ride warmed up.

What does the oil level look like with the bike on the centerstand and the motor off for 5 ~ 10 minutes?

Have you checked the insides of the plug caps for loose resistor cores; and made sure that all of the caps are tight on the wires?

NEW NGK D8EA plugs, properly gapped (not just right out of the boxes?)

i Just put in brand new NGK D8EA and gapped them myself. they were spot on right out of the box. and it use to idle with the choke off after 2-5 mins if the bike takes more than 5 mins to warm up enough to idle with out the choke something must be wrong is what i have been told. It is road worthy except that it wont idle. even after a good 10 min ride. the smoke is still there and it still wont idle with out the choke. I did lose a lot of oil when i did the valve shims. but it still looks to be ok i will re check it though. The bike starts up great with the choke on so i never looked at the caps casue i know im getting spark to all four spark plugs.. the plugs got really black and have gunk on them. and smell like gas when i took them off today.

So the floats are all dead-nuts on with a fuel level at 2mm below the edge of the carb body?

Where did you set the pilot mixture screws?

You may be close to getting ready to sync; the smoke makes me think you've got an airbox full of oil or too much oil in the sump.

yup floats are dead set. and the mixture screws are 2 1/2 turns out. but its hard to sync with the rpms all over the place. even with the choke on to idle it will shoot up to 3000 then down again. then shoot up. I just took it for a 10 min ride down the road (very difficult to get the bike idling btw) and got back and it still wont idle at all with out the choke. and still lots of smoke coming from my exhaust.
