Hey guys. First post on a forum. I just bought this bike and here's what's going on. It's hard to start the bike at first. It does start, then revs to 2k rpms and dies after a few seconds. After doing this a few times the bike will start and stay on but it will rev up to 4 to 5k and refuses to go down no matter what. During the night it rides great but during the day it over heats probably due to the engine not idling properly. I've cleaned the carb and did a bench sync but only seemed to make it worse. I was going to give up and take it to a shop but they want to charge me 600 dollars for a carb tune so no thanks. Haha! I'm also definitely a noob on any bike bigger than 250. Any help is really appreciated.

Vacuum leak(s), among other things that need tended to.

See the link in my signature that says "Read This First?"
    Read that first.
Stop riding it before you put a hole in a piston or burn a valve.

Thanks a ton man. I was being lazy and getting to excited to ride my first real bike. I gotta take it slow and fix everything and it looks like a lot of things since the last owners butchered a lot. Much appreciated.

If she's your first, you gotta treat her right.

Treat yourself right too. Take the Team Oregon course if you haven't yet, and get a copy of Proficient Motorcycling by David L. Hough.

Once she's ready, and you've been riding for a bit, take her up Germantown road early on a Sunday morning.
