Thanks to Len at xj forever I now have a new piston for my caliper. I cleaned up the caliper real good and was going to put that piston back in but couldn't bring myself to do it. That safety minded guy in my head told me the scratches in it was not going to be a good thing to do. So I waited a few weeks and ordered a new one. Now the caliper is all back together. New pads are in the box waiting to go on. I also sprung for the set of stainless braided brake lines. Had to make a little room in the garage. Now I just need to install everything, bleed it all out and the front brakes will be all new/rebuilt. Hopefully I will get the time to do it this coming weekend.

You made the right choice. The nicks are well into the area that is swept by the caliper seals.

Got home last night and walked through the garage on the way into the house.
Hmm, smells like gas. I checked over the bike to make sure it wasn't leaking. Found nothing , but the the ground wire for the battery charger was off. Odd. So I put it back on, and headed in.
Then after about 10 minutes of talking with the wife I got the story of why it smelled of fuel.

Cliffhangers. I like. This is becoming just like a weekly serial from the 30's.

Funny. Had to get back to work. Break was over.
Apparently my daughter opened the garage door for my wife. Then went and sat down on the xj. I have never seen her on it before. She made a comment on how nice the seat felt. I guess as she was getting off the xj, it fell over, and started leaking fuel. Thank god it fell away from her. But, my wife was getting out of the car when it fell into the car door. Trapping my wife's foot in the door.
So my daughter,13, and my son,11, are trying to pick up the xj off the car door and my trapped wife. Lets see, my daughter and son together probably weigh around 160lb, and the xj has to be over 500lb. They couldn't pick it up, so my wife ends up just pushing the door real hard and gets out.
I guess between the three of them they got it picked up.
My wife's foot is just bruised. The car door has a nice deep scratch in the door. I still need to look the xj over.
wife was telling me last night that I needed to get the tires for it. She's not real happy about the xj, or any bike so I don't know why she was telling to order them. I have been saving a little at a time for them, don't want to cut into the household budget.I started thinking about this last night, and I think it fell over because the front tire is flat. I filled it the other night to move the bike. It only takes a day for it to go flat again, so the bike must have shifted just right to fall over when she got off.

I had my Xj 2yrs before wifey found it. She flipped out. Took almost a year for her to accept that I had a bike. She went out and bought herself some riding gear and now she rides along As passenger. Give it time

Two years? Wow. Where the heck did you hide it.
I'm not sure I will get my wife on the bike.

Oh the wonders of a detached garage. My wife never makes it out there. I could hide soo many projects for such a long time. Hehehe

I have a 3 car metal building in the back yard and the wife rarely makes it out there. it makes it easy to hide Christmas presents from her. heck, I could hide a couple immigrant families in there, if I didn't have so much junk.

20150404_192909.jpg 20150404_192852.jpg Front brake is done. Just want to bleed it one more time in a couple days ,just to make sure.
New pads, rebuilt caliper with new piston, new ss braided lines, rebuilt master cylinder and a used brake lever.
The brakes feel good, front and rear. Took it for a spin up and down the driveway a few times.
Then the wife came to the window....

She says go order the tires. Lets see you ride it down the driveway.
I think it's growing on her.

20150404_193413.jpg Had to replace the brake lines. They looked good but safety is number one. I didn't find a year on them, just manufacturer, say number, country and part number

Wish I had someone close to check the front forks. They seem awful bouncy.

I'd hazard to guess that they are low on fork oil.

So if that's the case the seals are leaking.
I ordered a set of seals and dust seals. Now what else do I need to replace the seals? Upper retaining clips to hold the top cap. Anything else?

Got a new clutch lever and ordered a new clutch cable. That should make the clutch smoother.

Pretty is for other people. Can't see the bike while you're riding.

Rides nice. Just a couple things to do,and I'll feel better about it. I originally put in a glass fuse holder with no cover, but I have a blade type holder I want to put in.
Need to change the oil again. New air filter.
And, I need to find some side covers to make it a little prettier. Maybe the chrome air box covers. Not worried about air box as much as covering the battery and ignition box.

Finally got that dang oil filter bolt loose, and what do I find?
The filter is in backwards, spring on wrong side, and the washer is missing. 20150516_202100.jpg

Very common problem 1 of every 20 filter changes washer is missing. washer gets stuck on filter and gets tossed with filter . Honda and Kawi use same setup, so I have a bag of them in stock as well as a couple of springs .washer is same size
