Any body every swap xj650 speedo to an xs1100?

I got a set of xs 1100 speedo and tach combo from a friend to replace my scratched up non working originals. I'm stoked becuase I think the dual cans will look better then the originals. Although I neverously cautious about hacking the electrical connection off either set untill I know for sure where they go. I figured I would cut the connectors off the jugs them selves and crimp the 650's on to the 1100's but all the colors are different. does anyone have a wiring diagram for an 79 xs1100 jug?

Any suggestion on what to do with the extra low fuel light? can't think of anyting to hook it to.

 

If your going to get into the bike like that, I would recommend the XJCD. It kind of the holy grail of XJ info.

 

You're going to find a lot of differences; the 1100 has a fuel gauge, does it not? I don't believe your bike has a fuel gauge sending unit. That XS also appears to have an electronic tach whereas your bike has a mechanical tach you will need to block off.

You're going to need to do a lot of research before you start cutting.

 

Well at least the spedo should work. Is the spedo a 0 to 160mph or 0 to 85mph?

 

only 85 but the tach is not mechanical it's electric so that should be straight forward. Fitzs your right on the fuel sending unit.. I was trying to think of a use for the spare light.... any suggestions

 

If you're going to go to all that trouble find a 120, 135 or 150mph speedo and pop that in. Speedo gearboxes at the wheel are the same ratio on all '80s Jap bikes not just Yamahas.
