Been fettling a very rusty Club Cadet

says it all really, 1020 model lawn tractor, twin cylinder, twin cutters, electric tip, should be on the tip.
I'm pursevering though, once finished it will be a good one.

 

Cool. I refurbished a model 70, and a model 76 several years ago.

 

I've just been pricing up a new deck, £300 odd, its adding up, but looking at the prices of even used ones, still worth it.

 

This is the last one I did in 2013. Doesn't seem like all that long ago. Was a heck of a work horse. Biggest one they made that year, 16hp single. Only the the 44in deck for it not the 50in but was told the 50's warped way easier. I have a video of my son running the tractor with that plow buried in the ground just cruising along. I made the rear hitch myself.

 

Neat, mine is a pressed deck mower, don't ask me what I think of plastic coating....

 

Spirit of76 is super cool but my faves are the roundies. I’ve restored several of them

Current tractors in the stable are a 1450 and a 2182.

 

Spent a couple of hours tonight sorting the dim high beam on my Kawasaki trike. It's an '81 750. Tank off, seat off, side panels, lh switch apart. It turned out the voltage was as low as 2.8v at the lamp (only 7.8 on dip!). It as a funky lamp failure giszmo that puts the hb on (dimly) if the dipped light fails. The odd thing about this gismo is it feeds the switch on 2 seperate lines, but the feed to the gizmo is a common feed.
Well anyway, I thought I traced it back to the unit, '80s electronics, all potted with this yellow stuff, as soon as I linked out the unit hey presto. So, I snipped it and twisted the wires to test. Worked great. Then I thought, wonder what happens if I connect the 'other' feed up. Nothing, there was a broken wire in the loom. That's when the slow realisation occured that this gizmo might actuall have been doing what it was supposed to...
I will do some more tests tomorrow, but it looks like i will have to do without the lamp failure gizmo.

 

I met a guy today who has 19 antique lawn tractors. our wives were comparing notes on collections of motorcycles and lawn tractors.

He was definitely a beginner then. Lol. I don’t think I know one “collector “ without 40-50. Granted that’s probably a dozen that he will never sell and then 30+ selling for the hobby

I think I only managed to sneak up to about a dozen total. Always at least one quiet line model as well as a few roundies and a super cub or three
