I just bought my first bike, a 1982 XJ550 Maxim, with some small issues including one carb that floods every time the bike is turned on. I've never worked on a bike before, but I really want to learn. The issue is that most of the how-to videos skip over the very basics. I have the parts I need to fix carburetor, but I'm not quite sure how to remove them from the bike. If anyone has any tips or videos that show how, that would be awesome! Or if anyone knows any good resources for other beginner's repairs, maintenance, etc that would be helpful too!

Remove seat, Disconnect gas line, remove gas tank, release cables from carb choke, and throttle cable, loosen clamps on boots bith intake and exhaust, wiggle that sucker out, all 4 carbs are attached to together

heat the airbox boots with a hair drier to soften them for removal.

If you still have the stock airbox, lossen clamps on the boots push them into the airbox ,and there is a 10mm bolt looking straight down remove this and it helps to move airbox towards rear for clearance. A wooden hammer handle helps to pry if you must ,avoid using a prybar it can damage carb body.

Hairdrier good tip, warming them really transforms them, making it less likely to damage anything.
